Pulling off the classic Jumpman flight tag to show the raw "Jordan Rare Air" white lettering underneath feels like a great nod to old-school sneaker modification. The build quality feels very durable, and the matte plastic wings feel noticeably sturdier than previous retro runs. They fit completely true to size.

An elite everyday colorway, just watch for the suede transition
Jordan Brand cooked up something highly special with this 'Rare Air' iteration. Splicing royal blue on the back heel shield with fire red hits on the rubber outsole tip creates a wonderful, high-energy contrast that makes the silhouette pop from any angle. Underfoot, the traditional polyurethane midsole and encapsulated front Air-Sole unit deliver that stiff, reliable court isolation that 1989 purists love.

My only minor operational critique is the boundary lines between the black nubuck and the grey suede forefoot mudguard. Because they used a genuinely fuzzy, textured suede on the toe cap, it collects fine dirt easily and can look slightly dusty compared to the clean matte black upper if you don't keep a dedicated suede brush handy.

An absolute steal at retail price
I'm so happy I doubled down on this pair instead of chasing high-resale collaborations. The white lettering on the blue heel tab looks sharp and incredibly clean on foot. The extra royal blue laces included in the box are a fantastic touch.

Superb daily lockdown, but give the ankle collar time to breathe
The herringbone traction pattern on the outsole offers fantastic split-second grip on asphalt, and the quad-netting on the side panels keeps the midfoot from getting overly hot. Just be prepared for the fact that the dense royal blue textile lining used around the inner collar is quite thick and heavily padded, making the ankle lockdown feel very tight during your first three or four casual outings.
