The ultimate daily driver
I bought these to replace my cooked black Sambas and they are a massive upgrade. The 'Aluminum' grey color is the perfect muted taupe-grey that goes with absolutely everything. Pairing it with the core black stripes keeps it grounded.

Incredible quality and much better cushion than expected
I was skeptical about the comfort of another low-profile retro shoe, but the Spezial is a totally different beast. The built-in OrthoLite sockliner gives your feet a plush, padded layer that makes city walking a breeze. The soft aluminum suede looks very premium, and the crisp cloud white laces give the whole sneaker a beautifully clean look. They fit true to size.

A flawless neutral tone, just be careful on rainy days
adidas absolutely nailed the color balance on this specific drop. Because the aluminum grey has a slightly warm, mushroom-like undertone, it looks incredibly sophisticated paired with cream linen pants or a black oversized blazer. The contrast of the dark black leather 3-Stripes and matching heel tab gives it that sharp, classic indoor court identity from 1979.

My only piece of practical advice is that because the upper is a very soft, fine-grain brushed suede, it acts like a magnet for water marks and city dust. If you get caught in a sudden spring downpour, the light grey suede will darken and spot easily. I highly recommend applying a premium water-proofing treatment before your first wear. Sizing is secure and holds the midfoot beautifully with zero heel slip.

Immaculate stitching and finish
The quality control on this run is spotless. There are no messy glue overflows where the dark gum outsole meets the grey suede upper, and the metallic gold 'Spezial' lettering on the side is crisp and perfectly straight.

Stunning minimalism, but expect a narrow toe fit
This colorway is an absolute ten out of ten for minimalism because it serves as the perfect bridge between a stark white shoe and a heavy black sneaker. Just keep in mind that like most vintage adidas court models, the T-toe box overlay is shaped quite flat and narrow across the front. It took me about three full days of casual casual wear around the house before the suede relaxed enough to stop squeezing my pinky toes.
